about
This track was recorded to benefit victims of the Almeda fire in Southern Oregon, where I grew up. Proceeds from this track will be donated to the Rogue Valley Relief Fund:

I wrote this song in January of 2020, in a moment of deep emotions about the Australian wildfires, which burned 46million acres, destroyed over 5,900 buildings, and killed 34 people. Little did I know at the time that 2020 would be one of the worst fire seasons ever for the American West Coast, and that the towns of Talent and Phoenix, Oregon, where I have many friends and memories, would be substantially destroyed. 2,357 structures were lost in the Almeda Drive Fire and three human lives. Many people, including folks from some of the most vulnerable communities, lost their homes and possessions.
I’m grateful every day for the rain
Cause it reminds me that the land is alive
I’m grateful no two days are the same
Watch the clouds come and go, playing with the light
If heaven sent us here I don’t believe it
I’m a child of the water and the dirt
This earth has meant to me my whole existence
How can I not put her first?
The world is on fire
And you keep saying let it burn
If we’re so separated
That don’t explain why it hurts
I hear them talking on the television
Their voices angry and their words unkind
Acting like it’s some big competition
While most of us get left behind
They know their lies will only spread confusion
Keep us all talking while the world burns down
Powerlessness is an illusion
We can rise and change it now
The world is on fire
And you keep saying let it burn
If we’re so disconnected
That don’t explain why it hurts
What will we give up
What will we gain
To face the future unafraid
I just keep praying it’s not too late
I just keep praying it’s not too late
The world is on fire
And you keep saying let it burn
If we’re so separated
That don’t explain why it hurts
If heaven sent us here I don’t believe it
I’m a child of the water and the dirt
This earth has meant to me my whole existence
How can I not put her first?

Katie McNally manages to play so clean & groovy at the same time, and the whole trio together has such a warm and cohesive sound. Makes me miss cozy trad sessions in friends' basements. A romp of an album. andpersand
